Those Are Not My Thoughts | Renewing your mind in hard seasons

Shelley Jeffcoat Season 4 Episode 122

Mind renewal transforms how we navigate life's challenges by helping us manage negative thoughts and avoid becoming agents of chaos. Romans 12:2 guides us to be transformed rather than conformed to worldly patterns.

• Counter negative thoughts by verbally stating "Those are not my thoughts"
• Avoid becoming a "tornadic" person who brings chaos wherever they go
• Take breaks through meditation and prayer when feeling overwhelmed
• Develop a disciplined prayer life that isn't limited to physical spaces
• Remember that prayer is a spiritual connection available anywhere, anytime
• Be mindful that your thoughts become words and your words become actions
• Guard what you speak to avoid "cursing" your own blessings
• Embrace discipline in thought life as part of this year's theme

If you have prayer requests, please drop them in the comments. I read all comments across platforms and genuinely pray for you.

Speaker 1:

Good morning y'all All right. So I just got my coffee. I don't know why, every time I wear something black it looks messy on camera, but it is what it is. So, happy Saturday. I hope y'all are doing well.

Speaker 1:

So for those of y'all who are new to watching these, faith Fuel is just me coming on just giving really short teaching. Hopefully you feel inspired and encouraged and if you like these, if you don't mind sharing, that'd be great. And if you have a prayer request, please drop it in the comments. I actually read the comments on all of my platforms and I do pray for people, so so today I had all these thoughts kind of rummaging through my mind and I wanted to come. In Romans 12, verse 2, and this ESV version it says do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing, you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Okay, renewing our mind.

Speaker 1:

So something, two things that I used to share. I used to say this a lot a couple years ago. The first thing is how do you manage those thoughts, thoughts that come in that tell you that you're not this, you know your thoughts that are not of God, like thoughts that condemn you, thoughts that are just lies y'all we tell ourselves the craziest things or even thoughts that create doubt from what God says he has for you, and you start thinking like it'll never happen for me, it never happened in my family, it never happened for me, or even people right now, some people who are watching what's going on around us and saying, yeah, I don't think God's gonna bless me in this season of turmoil, which is not true. Um, so I want to challenge our thoughts. So something that I used to say. I used to say when a thought pops in my head, um, those are not my thoughts, and I would literally be speaking against my own thoughts. Like you know, those are not my thoughts. If I, if I start to doubt myself or say real harmful things about myself, doubt my God, anything, I just say those are not my thoughts, and I keep it moving and I say it out loud.

Speaker 1:

And the second thing I want to encourage us to do is not become agents of chaos. You should be hyper, not hyper. You should be aware of what's happening around you, but you shouldn't be an agent of chaos. You should be so far removed from being that person who is chaotic, like have you ever met people? I meet people sometimes and the way I see them spiritually, they look like tornadoes, they just like walking tornadoes, and every time they show up it's a whirl, like their energy is off and they show up and it just feels like this, it's just whirring and I literally can't stand it. I literally go the total opposite way. Ghost, you block you all the things. Like if you have that tornado, it's not a tornado. There's no such thing as a tornadic spirit. But I'm just trying to explain what it seems like, what it feels like.

Speaker 1:

But if you get caught up in chaos that you end up, you know, you end up spinning out of control and you start attaching yourself to everything and you become that person who's chaotic, okay, and when the word's talking about do not be conformed to this world but be transformed the renewal of your mind, it's, you know, the thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. What's in your heart become your thoughts. Your words become your actions, because what you say you actually end up doing. We, we create with our mouth, we speak, we speak things.

Speaker 1:

I was sharing yesterday with one of my mentees that you know she'd shared something and like a minute later she cursed it, like I was like what are you doing? Doing you just cancel out your blessing because you're just cursing yourself? So, um, so, just, you know being very uh, careful about what you say, about yourself, renewing your mind every day. So I'm gonna run down to the three. I think I did three things, um, and I want to make this clear and concise to help all of us. So, again, romans 12 2, um, and the encouragement is to renew our minds. The first thing is, when you have those, you know, those thoughts coming in, those negative thoughts, literally say those are not my thoughts and keep it moving. That's the first thing. The second thing is to not be caught up in chaos. You should be uncomfortable with chaos, okay, so don't be that chaotic spirit or energy or person. Don't be that chaotic spirit or energy or person. Don't be that person, that person, that world's out of control. And if you feel like you're getting caught up in everything, take a break, meditate, pray, you know, pause, okay, that's the second thing. And I think the last thing is pray. The last thing is pray, gotta, have a disciplined prayer life.

Speaker 1:

And again, I didn't say anything about going in your prayer closet. What I'm saying is I pray all day, every day, and it doesn't require me to be in a physical place, it requires me to be in a spiritual place. So I can pray in my car, I can pray while I'm at my desk, I can pray when I'm walking, I'm praying in the store. It's not a physical thing, it's a spiritual thing. So a lot of you have allowed your physical limitations to actually limit you. Now where, wait? I'm gonna take this to God when I get to my prayer closet. As soon as I get to my prayer closet, I'm gonna tell I get to my prayer closet. I'm going to tell the Lord about it. Tell him now, like, what are you waiting for? He doesn't need your prayer closet. You need your prayer closet, but God doesn't need the closet. God is not limited to time and space. So pray, that's the third thing. So I hope that helped you Again.

Speaker 1:

Romans 12 to just a real quick faith fuel today. I pray that this blesses you again. We're in a season. This year is still about discipline, right. So being disciplined also means that you need to take the time out sometimes to renew your thoughts, the way you think, what you speak and all those things. So I hope this encourages you. I hope this blessed you, lord.

Speaker 1:

So I thank you for every person under the sound of my voice who's just looking for a renewal in their minds this morning, a refresh and a restoration. Just give them, you know, fresh thoughts, good thoughts. You know thinking on the things that are good and acceptable and pure, and all the blessings that you've already placed in our lives. I thank you, lord. For those who are embracing this because of the love they have for you, I'm wanting nothing more than to hear more about you, lord Jesus, and to experience you, and however you bless them, I pray, lord God, that you bless them in such overflow that they're able to bless their communities and their families and those that you've placed in their lives. You've established our path, and so we have nothing to fear, and so we thank you for your favor and your protection over every person who's listening this morning. Give them fresh thoughts, lord God. Let them think about the good things and have hope and dream again about the future that you created and built for us. Now I ask that you open every door that is meant to be open for us so we can walk into this new season of our life. I thank you for expansion and restoration and renewal and I just thank you, lord, for everything that you have for your children, because you love us, because of your mercy, because of your grace. All of these things we ask in your son, jesus' name. Amen, all right, y'all. I love you.

Speaker 1:

Happy Saturday. I hope you're going to do something nice for yourself. I'm enjoying the sunshine and I'm about to clean my kitchen. Very exciting day ahead. All right, I love you. Jesus loves you more, and I will see you next week. Take care.
