True Faith Shows In How We Treat Others, Not How Well We Quote Scripture

Shelley Jeffcoat Season 4 Episode 117

A challenging reflection on examining our heart posture when praying for others and recognizing we might be the villain in someone else's story. True connection to God's heart isn't measured by how well we quote scripture but by the fruit of mercy, compassion, and care we show to others.

• The danger of praying against others while positioning ourselves as righteous
• Looking beyond biblical knowledge to see if we truly have God's heart
• Using Psalm 51 as a model for approaching God with humility
• Examining the fruit in our lives rather than just our religious knowledge
• The importance of helping those in need instead of standing in judgment
• God values how we care for each other more than our ability to quote scripture

Speaker 1:

Good morning y'all. Welcome to another Saturday Faith Fuel, and this might be one of the quickest ones I've done, but I had this thought come to me, and it's kind of been lingering over the past few days, about when we're praying and how we approach and what we ask God for and all the things. And something that I'm really proud of with our prayer community is that when we are, you know praying whether it's Thursday, monday, tuesday, whatever it is, you know praying, whether it's Thursday, monday, tuesday, whatever it is, you know in the chat, all the things is that our heart posture is always about lifting other people. It's never about judgment. We're not self-righteous, you know all the things y'all.

Speaker 1:

But this morning I was kind of still battling some things that I heard that folks were praying for and against, praying against people. And it just came to me because I think this is the season that we're in that you might very well be the villain in the story. I know it's easy to say that. You know other people are coming for us and other people are you know we're the victims of and you know woe is me. I know it's really. It's very simple. It's very easy to do that, especially if you are self-righteous, right, but you might very well be the villain in the story, and what that means is just a reminder that none of us are perfect. I am never in the position to pray for someone's downfall. Even you know, even um those, when I again I got time for you today if you're gonna come in the comments for me, even if you know the bible, the scripture, back and forth, you can know the word of god inside and out. You could, you could know the context, the history, you could be a scholar, you could have a title, you could have all the things, but that doesn't mean you have his heart, that doesn't mean you have the Holy Spirit. And it's very evident in how we respond to people around us how quickly we are to tear people down because they fall into some kind of bucket that we don't like, or we churn up conspiracy theories about stuff. Y'all. We have got to do better, but we could very well be and you could be the villain, the real villain in the story. So what I want to do is urge us to pray about that.

Speaker 1:

I'm looking at my Bible, psalm 51, and the verse. This is Psalm 51. I usually come here before I fast, just to just to again put myself before the throne. Y'all have mercy on me, oh God, according to your steadfast love, according to your abundant mercy, and blot out my transgressions, wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Um this, this idea that you are so perfect and so godly and so righteous because you look a certain way, you live a certain place, you're earning certain coins, whatever it is, is, quite frankly, ridiculous. Okay, but you might very well be.

Speaker 1:

So we're going to check our posture. We're going to look at ourselves first. Right Before we go out and curse other people's lifestyle or their kids or their anything, before we do that, we need to check our own posture. We need to look at ourselves and see what it is that we're doing. What are we doing to cause people again, if you're a believer and I am not impressed I'm never impressed with people who can spew the scripture out, because the devil knows God's word, so that's not a point to stand on.

Speaker 1:

I look at the fruit, I look at their lives, I look at the impact that they're making, I look at how they move, and that is important to me. I look at God's grace on your life and I look to see if you're someone that has mercy for others. Are you helping the sick and the poor, you know? Are you helping those in need or you just standing on a platform and screaming because it makes you feel good? Come on now, so we are in a better season again. I don't want us to forget that we serve a God that is spirit, and he's not impressed by how much you can study and spew the word. He really wants to see how we take care of each other. That's why we have dominion over all things right, we have dominion over the earth. That's why we're here. We're supposed to be helping each other and again, I pray this blesses y'all. So I love you, have an amazing Saturday and I will talk to y'all next week. Bye.
