Embracing Stillness: Transforming Your Spiritual Life Through Slow Days and Mindful Listening

Shelley Jeffcoat Season 3 Episode 82

What if taking just a few hours to pause and listen could transform your spiritual life? Join me as I explore the concept of "slow days," a practice that has brought clarity and peace into my hectic schedule. This episode of Faith Fuel invites you into my personal space where I intentionally carve out time for deep listening and meditation. Rather than filling our lives with constant motion and unchecked busyness, I encourage dedicating moments where silence and gratitude reign, allowing us to truly hear and appreciate the abundance around us. Overcoming the noise of everyday life can reveal powerful answers and insights, making the practice of intentional listening invaluable.

I share my own experiences and routines, including how I manage a full-time job while nurturing a ministry, all while making room for spiritual reflection. These "slow days" are not just about being still; they represent a shift toward mindfulness and thankfulness. Whether you're balancing work, family, or social commitments, integrating a slow day into your routine can offer a reset for your soul. Let this episode challenge you to rethink your approach to prayer and meditation, and to find those precious times where you can simply listen and be grateful, ultimately unlocking a deeper connection with your faith.

Speaker 1:

Good morning, happy Saturday. So last Saturday I was on here and I had a whole lot of sunlight, and this morning I don't have that much, but it's all right. Happy Saturday, y'all. I'm not sure if I told you that. So these Saturday teachings, when you see me come on, they're actually part of them on Mrs Pai YouTube channel. It's called Faith Fuel and so it's just quick, quick, short teachings that I do on Saturday mornings and I can't go live with them. It's just. It's easier for me to just come on. I record it on my I don't know very crooked phone, but I come on and do them on Saturday mornings and I'm trying to think of other times when I can pop on and be live, just so we can pray together, hear from each other. Everyone's schedule is so crazy mine included, and so I'm trying to also be mindful of your time. But you can catch me on our live prayers on Monday and Tuesdays and also Thursday morning when I do those podcasts. Those are live and I'll try to figure something out when we can connect. We also have events and stuff that are virtual, so y'all can. I want to meet more people, so y'all come on out.

Speaker 1:

But Saturday musings and all the things that I do. These are actually called Faith Fuel and it's on the YouTube channel, so come check me out. But today actually, you know, I'm just checking in and I was thinking I wanted to share something that I do maybe once every couple months or so, where I try to have a Saturday. It mainly works out for me to be a Saturday unless I'm taking time off from work I have a full time job and this ministry but unless I'm actually taking the day off, I try to have one day where I'm only in meditation mode, I'm only listening. So it means it's my, I call it my, it's my, um, a slow day, if you will Like. That's the thing. It's my slow day. So I get up a little slower, um, you know I, you know I make my coffee, I go into the war, but the main thing that I do on these types of days is I'm in a different mode, I'm just listening, so I don't watch the YouTube stuff like I used to. By the way, the YouTube stuff, like you know, y'all know I'm like cleaning videos and watching your bag things. That's my thing. Okay, um, traveling videos, those things, but I try to just make it like a slower day, and the intention of that day is for me to hear from god.

Speaker 1:

A lot of times. We're praying, we're pushing, we're pushing through prayer, we're believing, we're hoping, we're doing the things, but you actually have to, um, make some time it's called meditation. Make some time where your, your only intention is to listen, is to hear, and, and so today is that slow saturday for me. So, although it is my slow Saturday, I wanted to come on and share that and encourage you to do that. Maybe it's not a whole day, maybe it's just, you know, a few hours, but it has to be an intentional amount of time. And so it doesn't again mean that things aren't happening around me. I'm still mom and a wife. I still, you know, have to, you know, make dinner later, and but the house is clean and everything is all done, those types of chores. I'm not going out to see friends. You know, the social things are kind of in shutdown mode. Just so I could listen today, and I believe that is something that a lot of us are missing, when we're praying and we're asking God for the things and we're waiting for the answer, but you can't hear the answer because you're so busy, you know, you're so busy, you're still moving and you're not giving yourself time to just pause and ponder.

Speaker 1:

The other thing that I do on these slow days is that I'm in a position, a hard posture, of gratitude. I'm not asking for anything. I'm thanking God for crazy things. I'm thanking, I thank you, lord, for all the blessings I thank you for so in my house. I thank you for my family, I thank you for the food, I thank you for our transportation, I thank you for the sun, like I'm just in a mode of being grateful and gratitude, and that is my heart posture.

Speaker 1:

I'm not asking, lord, what you going to do about the things on the job. What you going to do, lord, what are you going to do about the things on the job? What are you going to do? You know, I'm not asking for that. I'm just in a position to hear and in praise and in grateful thing, you know, gratefulness and thankfulness, and that's that's my slow day. That's a slow day.

Speaker 1:

So I want to encourage you and then let's pray together that that you will, you know, give yourself that time so that you can just have a slow day of just listening to God. So, lord, I thank you for every person who is listening under the sound of my voice, that this is important for all of us, that we need to make time to just listen to you. I pray that maybe today is that day for those who are waiting for a word from you, that they'll just set time apart where they're only listening and in praise, thanking you, not trying to manipulate the prayer, not trying to praise you, um, in a way that um manipulates your response, but just being grateful for what you've already done and just being a position of of peace and joy in our hearts. Thank you, holy spirit, for always correcting us and guiding us and and reminding that we got to make time to hear from you, amen. So I thank you, lord, for this day. I thank you for everyone who's waiting for a word that they'll receive that in this moment of peace in their lives, amen, all right, that's what I want to share.

Speaker 1:

It's not, you know, it's not a long teaching today, but you do. I do find that this works for me, and so it was really heavy on my heart today. So I'm going to be obedient and share what this is kind of. You know some of the things that I do. I have to be in that position where I can hear. Otherwise, how am I supposed to teach y'all Right? You know how am I supposed to make decisions? Come on y'all, if we don't allow ourselves that time, that time to just listen. Slow Saturday is where I'm at today, so if I don't respond to y'all, you know what's going on. It's slow Saturday for me. I love you and Jesus loves you more. Y'all have a good day. Bye.
