Eyes on Him: Finding Focus and Guidance Through Faith and Prayer
Picture a classroom where a teacher claps and calmly demands, "One, two, three, eyes on me." This simple command not only gains the attention of eager young minds but also serves as a powerful reminder for our spiritual lives. On this bright Saturday morning, I share an uplifting message inspired by Psalm 16:8, focusing on the significance of setting our eyes on the Lord amidst life's noise and chaos. Discover how, just like those teachers, God seeks our undivided attention to offer guidance and direction in every facet of our lives—be it work, ministry, or personal challenges.
Join me as we explore the practical steps to keep our focus on God, which isn't about reciting scripture word for word but dedicating intentional moments to nurture our relationship with Him. Through anecdotes and reflections from a recent prayer call, I shed light on how recognizing the characteristics of God can enhance our spiritual journey. This episode encourages you to tune out the distractions and embrace the divine guidance available to us, offering a heartening reminder to keep our eyes on the One who steadies us in all circumstances.

Good morning, happy Saturday y'all. I couldn't wait to share this with you. I'm a little bit giddy and a little bit excited, so let me fix my camera, y'all, okay. So Psalm 16, verse 8, and it says I'm reading from the ESV version, and it says I have set the Lord always before me because he is at my right hand. I will not be shaken hand, I will not be shaken. So there's another version of this, I think it's NIV, where it says I see, I see the Lord always before me.
Speaker 1:So for those of y'all who are parents and or maybe you're, you know, millennial younger, a lot of times teachers use these various commands in with kids, with, like kindergartners or preschool maybe, and it's this command, is a verbal command that gets your attention and literally the Holy Spirit had he was doing this with me this week. So I wanted to share with you because maybe this will help you. And this verbal command is is one, two, three eyes on me. One, two, three eyes on me. One, two, three eyes on me. One, two, three eyes on me. And so when I was hearing this command and it's for me, you know, whenever I hear from the Lord, it's always connected back to scripture y'all. So that's. I know I'm not cray-cray, okay. This is such a powerful verse to remind us one, two, three eyes on me when things are happening all around you.
Speaker 1:I was getting so distracted with things that were happening on the job, things that were happening in ministry. I was getting distracted, I was getting worn out with people responding to me crazy. I was getting so distracted with, like you know, all of the things that I needed to do in my house and I wasn't focusing on God. And I know that. You know it's really easy for us to get caught up. We live in the world, so we get caught up by things happening in the world. And again, the word says I have set the Lord always before me.
Speaker 1:So the reason those teachers would give those one, two, three eyes on me command is for a couple of reasons. The first thing is when you have your eyes set on someone, when teachers do that, it's because they're trying to get your attention, and they're trying to get your attention so they can give you instructions. So it's not just you know, I set my eyes upon the Lord, it's you're focusing on the Lord in the same way, like teachers do that with those instructors so that you can get instructions. They need your attention. So one, two, three eyes on me, don't look at what's happening around you, focus on me. The second thing that this does is, when we talk about setting our eyes on the Lord is it's kind of like, right now, the way I'm talking to you, or sharing with you, or teaching you, hopefully, or learning, picking up some things, but the few moments that we're spending together, you're listening. You're getting the instructions, but you're listening. You're opening what we call the listening ear. Right, when you focus on something, you have to open your ears so that you can also hear the instructions. Ears so that you can also hear the instructions. So, for those of y'all who are, you know, I've been waiting on the Lord to hear from the Lord about something. If you're distracted and you're not setting your eyes on him meaning you're focused on him then you're going to have trouble hearing the instructions just because your eyes are everywhere. So one, two, three eyes on me.
Speaker 1:So I wanted to then address how do I set my eyes on the Lord? What does that look like? Well, sometimes it looks like going into scripture and setting time. You know it's not again. It's not about, like you know the Bible back and forth. You know every scripture, because I don't, I don't, I'm. I know the word when he sends me here.
Speaker 1:But I also dedicate time to a personal relationship with God. I talk to Jesus about the most incredible things. So here's something else I want to share with you. Someone asked on our phone prayer call last Thursday to share five things about God like five adjectives or something like that. About God, like five adjectives or something like that. And I was able to do that really quickly.
Speaker 1:But the reason I'm able to share things about the Lord is because I have an experience in a relationship, right. It's like if you ask me about your friend Sandy and I know her, you know Shelly, you know what's your relationship with Sandy I can tell you some things because we have a relationship right, right, so that's the other part of this is when you set your eyes on the Lord. It also means that you, you start building a relationship. You focus on on him and it's not in a you know. You start to realize that the more you spend time alone and listen for the instructions, right, the more that you spend time with God, the more you realize that you don't have a seat or a place to judge other people, the more you realize that what he's calling you to do is to serve one another and love one another.
Speaker 1:I can tell people who spend time like for real time with the Lord, and I can tell people who are just spending time reading the Bible. In a year, no shade, okay. So one, two, three eyes on me. Maybe that's what the Holy Spirit is telling you this morning is to come back and focus on Him. Come spend time with the Lord.
Speaker 1:Meditate, which means not just praying, but also spending time to listen. Set time apart where you know y'all, even if it's 20 minutes or 10 minutes. Will you just set time apart to just Lord? I just want to hear from you this morning. You know all of my troubles and cares. I'm casting everything to you. You know everything that's going on, lord. So I'm setting all of my cares, I'm throwing all my troubles on you. I'm just coming so that I can hear from you and focus on you.
Speaker 1:So, lord, I thank you, lord, for this morning, for this teaching. I thank you for reminding us to spend time with you, to meditate on you, listen to what you're saying, to set our eyes on you, no matter what is going on around us, we can't understand. We are living in this temporal world. This is not our home. So, lord, even with all the things and the distractions that are happening around us, I pray that we will come before you and spend time with you and set our eyes on you. I thank you for what happens then when we do that is you start to reveal to us the things that we need to do in ourselves to purify us so that we can hear you more clearly. I thank you, lord, for blessing us on this awesome Saturday and every person under the sound of my voice. Amen, one, two, three. Eyes on me. That's what the Holy Spirit is saying for all of us this morning. Set our eyes on him. I love y'all. Have a great rest of your day, take care.
